A handsome and super quality Edwardian mahogany linen press in the Georgian manner, of pleasingly slimmer than usual proportions. The upper section has an over-hung cornice above two panelled doors with astragal mouldings with re-entrant corners, opening to reveal an arrangement of three sliding trays, above a base section of two short and two long drawers with brass ‘swan neck’ handles and raised on ogee bracket feet. Bears metal plaque or the renowned makers ‘Waring & Gillow’, and all locks are stamped to the same effect.
Height 70” (178cm) Width 43” (109cm) Depth 21” (53cm)
Condition and Details of Restoration:
This linen press is in generally original excellent untouched structural condition. There is minor damage to the very rear of the top of the cornice on each end (see detail photographs); apart from that there are minor old marks commensurate with age only. The polish has been revived, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner.
